So where is the problem? The reality of most BEMS control strategies is that they are set up for the delivery of “adequate” building services, not energy efficiency – these two objectives are not mutually exclusive and should not be treated as such.
There are two ways of combating this waste. You can either tackle the symptoms, for example, by ensuring that your lights and computer terminals etc. are turned off when not in use. Or you can go right to the cause of the waste and focus on probably your single greatest consumer of energy, your HVAC system. This is where, in the vast majority of cases, we identify the greatest energy saving opportunities.
We do this through our unique method of auditing heat demand, matching control performance to it and then defining and implementing advanced control systems to optimise building energy efficiency. This approach has already saved over 50% in fuel bills in some buildings, without any loss of any building services.
