SIGNIFICANT ENERGY SAVINGS NOW AVAILABLE ON DISTRICT HEATING SYSTEMS, FUNDED THROUGH THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY COMMITMENT SCHEME.
Substantial funding will be available to Local Authorities and Housing Associations to improve the energy efficiency of their district heating systems using technology developed by AEC, this will reduce gas bills by at least 10%, and possibly considerably more.
AEC have developed their analytical approach to identifying and implementing opportunities for making savings across a wide variety of buildings, from office blocks and Hotels to more specialist buildings. Last year a number of pilots were carried out with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets where as much as 30% reduction in the gas consumption was achieved in some of their district heating systems.
AEC and EDF Energy have been working with the various regulators to have this technology approved under the Energy Efficiency Commitment scheme having identified its potential to make a significant contribution to their commitment to reducing residential energy consumption. In addition the savings achieved will help contribute towards local authorities’ HECA targets.
“Anything that helps reduce energy consumption and save money as well as reducing C02 emissions must be a good thing, it really is a win-win situation all round”, said Julian Miller of AEC. Initial funding will be made available on a site-by-site basis dependent on the current energy consumption. Savings will be closely monitored over a period of time and if more than 10% is achieved further funds may be made available for additional energy saving works, a case of the more you save the greater the opportunity to save even more.
